Five years straight of breastfeeding.
A journey I set out on with my son thinking I’d do it for one year, and it brought us 2.5 years of connection and bonding like no other. Then I had my daughter, and I carried on feeding , saying goodbye to one journey and hello to the next.

It’s been a full-time job.
Learning how to manage oversupply in the beginning.
Learning how to feed a baby with a tongue tie, then re-learning after a revision.
Five years of co-sleeping.
Feeding through the night.
Feeding on demand.
Feeding in public.

Five years of never being away from my babies.
Never spending longer than two nights away from them — usually only for a birth — and still finding time to pump and keep my supply up.
Donating my milk so other mamas could feed their babies too.

It’s been my favourite part of motherhood.
And I’m really sad to say goodbye to this chapter.

I hope one day I get to feed another baby, but if I don’t…
I have five years of so much love to hold onto. 🤍

Did you know?
Before birth, baby’s lungs are filled with fluid.
During labour, your body releases hormones that signal baby’s lungs to start absorbing that fluid, and moving through the pelvis helps gently squeeze some of it out.
After birth, those first breaths, skin-to-skin, adorable sneezes and crying help clear what’s left and open the lungs to air

I won’t stop posting these photos ( as long as my clients are comfortable and consent before hand ) and spreading the beauty of birth , and postpartum !

After mom gets settled, she holds me close,
and I drift away into the night, warm and cosy.

No rushing.
No going anywhere.

Just the three of us, already home 🤍

Two years as a doula.

Two years ago, after having my daughter, I said yes to this work. I didn’t fully know where it would lead, I just knew I felt deeply called to support people through birth and postpartum.

Over these two years, this work has grown into something far bigger than I ever imagined.

I’ve supported 39 families to date with a whole year ahead of this work.

I don’t work full time. I intentionally take months off each year to be with my kids and protect my capacity, working only 6-8 months of the year and still, this work has grown beyond what I ever imagined.

Some calls started as backup births and turned into lifelong connections. Most were families who found me, reached out, and chose me to walk alongside them.

That’s over 70 prenatal visits, 30+ postpartum visits, countless hours talking through birth and postpartum, hours and hours editing photos in the quiet after birth, and more than 40 placenta tours, because I genuinely love teaching about the placenta.

This work has taken me into homes and hospital rooms across the Lower Mainland, including Surrey, Langley, St. Paul’s, RCH, BC Women’s, and Richmond. It even took me onto a plane to Kelowna when a family needed support and their birth plans changed.
Birth breakdown:
• 5 cesarean births (including 1 planned)
• 2 VBACs — both successful
• 5 fully supported home births
• The rest vaginal births
What feels important to say is that I’ve done all of this as a single mom with a two and four year old.

I’ve leaned on friends for childcare. I’ve made it work in between naps, early mornings, late nights, and on call weeks. I truly could not have done this without my mom and dad, who are essentially on call with me, constantly putting their own plans aside so I can show up fully for my clients.

This work has stretched me, humbled me, and affirmed again and again that this is exactly where I’m meant to be.

To every family who trusted me in one of the most vulnerable seasons of their lives, thank you. And to the version of me two years ago who said yes before she felt ready, while she was 2 months postpartum learning how to navigate motherhood alone , I’m really proud of you.

Monthly Practitioner Spotlight 🤍

This month I want to highlight Dr. Bronwyn Hunt at Broadmoor in Terra Nova, Richmond. She is someone I regularly recommend to my families. She works with a lot of pregnant moms, postpartum bodies, and babies, and her care is always gentle, intentional, and grounded in whole-body support.

She came to do a home visit for my client last night and it was such a reminder of how powerful it is to have the right practitioners in your corner during pregnancy and postpartum. When it’s accessible for your family, building a support team that looks after you is just as important as preparing for your baby.

Dr. Bronwyn specializes in family-centred chiropractic care, including prenatal, postnatal, and pediatric support. Her work focuses on helping the nervous system function well, supporting pelvic balance in pregnancy, and gently supporting babies as they adapt to life outside the womb. She’s widely trusted by doulas, midwives, and practitioners throughout the Lower Mainland for a reason.

This is exactly the kind of care I love to connect my clients with: respectful, evidence-based, and rooted in nervous system regulation and whole-family wellness.

I’ll be starting a monthly spotlight to share the practitioners I personally recommend and work alongside, because your village matters just as much as your birth plan.

Children who witness the birthing process learn early that bodies are capable and powerful. That intensity doesn’t equal danger. That birth is something to trust, not fear. This is how we raise a generation who sees birth differently.

Today my son helped me make a placenta print for a client.
At four, he can explain how a baby grows and how the placenta supports life.

He was home when I birthed his sister. He was only two and a half, but he understood the process and watched birth videos with me.

Now that I’m in birth work, he always asks about the mamas and their babies and wants to see photos as soon as I’m home.

Seeing birth through a child’s curiosity is something I never take for granted. On the other hand my 2 year old screamed in terror when i pulled out the placenta and ran away haha

Baby’s first home
After your baby arrives, don’t forget to ask your care provider or doula for a placenta tour. It’s such a special way to see the first home your baby knew.

Did you know you can also keep your placenta and honour it in different ways? Some families choose a placenta print, encapsulation, or my personal favourite planting the placenta in the ground and growing a beautiful tree alongside your baby 🌱

There’s so much that happens behind the scenes.

These two BC paramedics arrived for a post home birth transfer and patiently waited for the direction of the midwives. They could have sat back with their hands crossed and no one would have expected more, but instead they chose to step in and care for these parents in a different manner

They helped reset the house, moved quietly through the space, and help support this family as they were meeting their baby for the first time.

When people show up with patience and teamwork, it makes a lasting difference. this is part of being a village.

A C-section is still the birth of your baby.
And you might not know this but the incision itself is usually quite small, there is so much intention behind every moment. Your OB and the team gently guide your baby down and out , not in one fast motion, but with slow, steady pressure as your baby is birthed into the world.

Birth pages are filled with videos of women bringing life into the world. I send them to clients all the time. I watch women doing the most natural, raw, powerful thing imaginable, and every single time I’m taken right back to this moment.

The moment I birthed my daughter. A swift, unassisted home birth in my living room. I stood, leaning into the arms of my birth partner, held gently in the presence of my doula, my soul sister, who became one of the most important people in my life.

That birth showed me how safe and secure birth can feel. How deeply I could trust my body and my baby.

And because of that moment, because of what I felt that day, I now sit beside every client with a calm knowing, reminding them that they’ve got this. Their bodies were made for this.

In honour of my sweet girl turning two tomorrow, I remember so clearly that night. The three hours from my water breaking to my baby in my arms. Ocie Elliot and Noah Kahan playing softly in the background, trying not to wake our toddler. The pool warm beside me but unable to move from the couch. It’s all still so clear.

I love being a mom

In the stillness, love is the gentle weight of being held✨

Birth is a physiological process that takes time.
Labour may slow or pause as the body makes room for the baby as it moves down and rotates to find the optimal position for birth. This is often when the pelvis is making space, the baby’s head is molding, and hormones like oxytocin are working to coordinate effective contractions.

Pauses in labour are not always a sign that something is wrong, they can be an important part of progress. With support from your birth team and patience to allow this process to unfold, your body and baby usually find the rhythm needed to move forward safely. 📷- @destinedtobirth

Motherhood has a way of breaking you down and then birthing a new version of yourself.

I’ve sat beside single moms in the OR, held their hands as they brought life into the world, and walked with them through postpartum. I know their strength because I’ve lived it myself.

I went through school with a newborn strapped to my chest and a two-year-old by my side. I pulled myself out of postpartum, and I pushed way too hard, way too soon, because I had no choice. It was me, a baby, a toddler, and survival.

Now, a few years later, I’m raising a 4½-year-old and an almost 2-year-old while running a doula business. Clients and friends who aren’t familiar with me are always surprised when they hear I’m a single mom, because they wonder “how I do it.” Leaving in the middle of the night for births, juggling work with kids full time, finding a way to make it all fit.

The truth is, it doesn’t always fit. It’s messy, heavy, and lonely. After having my daughter and going through postpartum alone, I promised myself I would never let another mom feel that same weight without support. That experience shaped me. It’s what makes me a better friend, a better doula. I don’t want anyone else to feel what I felt. And if I can help soften the load or speak on it, I will.

I’ve leaned on my own circle of women navigating the same road. Together we’ve carried each other.

This isn’t talked about enough. So many moms are quietly holding it all together. Separated, figuring it out, or carrying more than they thought they could. It’s not shameful. It’s not weakness. It’s real life.

To the moms in it right now: you can do it. You will do it. And even if it feels like you’re alone, you’re not.

It’s always an honor to step in as a backup for a fellow doula. To be welcomed into a birth space as a complete stranger and met with such love during such a sacred moment is something I never take lightly. When clients ask what backup support looks like, I share that I have trusted doulas on call who align with my values and offer care in a way that feels much like my own. I also deeply believe that the right people are always meant to be present at your birth, and on the rare occasion that it isn’t me, it may be that the backup doula is exactly the support you needed in that moment.

Planning for a Cesarean Birth with a Doula by Your Side ? It’s a very common chat during my zoom meetings so let’s chat about it

Many families are surprised to learn that doulas aren’t just for vaginal births. We also provide support before, during, and after cesareans. Whether your C-section is planned or unplanned, having a doula on your team can make a big difference.

Here’s what that support can look like:
• Preparation and Advocacy – Helping you feel informed about what to expect, the choices you still have such as delayed cord clamping, skin-to-skin, or partner involvement, and making sure your preferences are honored when possible.
• Emotional Support – Birth can feel overwhelming, especially in the operating room. A doula helps ground you and your partner, offering calm reassurance every step of the way.
• Partner Support – Making sure your partner feels included and supported too, so they can be fully present.
• Postpartum Care – Once your baby is here, a doula can help with those first feeds, skin-to-skin, and recovery support back in your room.
• Capturing the Moment – More and more care providers are open to allowing photography in the OR, which gives families the chance to have their cesarean birth documented just as beautifully as any other.

Every birth is powerful, and having a doula means you don’t have to navigate it alone.

Delayed cord clamping isn’t one-size-fits-all. Instead of simply writing “delayed” on your birth plan, be clear whether that’s until the cord is white and limp, after three minutes, or another choice that feels right for your family. Even a few extra minutes can give your baby valuable blood, iron, and stem cells to support a smoother transition earthside. 📸- Destinedtobirth

Using nitrous oxide to manage the peaks of intense contractions. It doesn’t remove the pain, but helps take the edge off, offering a brief pause between surges. Did you try gas during labour?

I believe in supporting moms as they take the lead, never forcing baby to latch, but helping create calm and confidence in those early moments. Many doulas, like myself, have education or lived experience in breastfeeding support. We also help remind clients that lactation consultants (LCs) are available in the hospital, and we can connect you to trusted lactation care in the community once you’re home.

What a beautiful reminder of the quiet power, strength, and surrender that lives in the walls of a home where a baby is born.

Home birth isn’t the right choice for everyone — and that’s okay. But for those who feel called to it, it’s often more than a place. It’s a feeling. A sense of safety, of being held. Of birthing on your own terms, in your own rhythm, surrounded by people who trust your body as much as you do.

I’ve witnessed babies born in dimly lit rooms, with candles flickering and soft music playing. I’ve seen mothers roar their babies into the world, then collapse into bed with their newborn tucked against their chest, not needing to go anywhere or do anything but be.

I myself had a Unassisted home birth , and there is something sacred about birth that unfolds in a space that already holds your story — where you’ve laughed, grieved, cooked dinners, napped on the couch, and raised your other little humans , And now, where you meet your baby for the first time.

Let’s talk about Gentle Cesareans.

A cesarean birth doesn’t have to feel scary or uncertain, so let’s talk about it . More families are asking and care providers are embracing the idea of a gentle, family-centered cesarean — an approach that prioritizes the well-being, bonding, and involvement of both parents and baby.

Some of the key elements of a gentle cesarean can include:

✨ Slower delivery pace- The baby is guided out slower , allowing for a slower transition from womb to world

✨ Delayed cord clamping - Due to being in the OR this would look much shorter but still possible.

✨ Immediate skin-to-skin contact — Rather than separating baby and parent, skin-to-skin can happen right on the operating table, supporting bonding, regulating baby’s temperature, heart rate, and encouraging breastfeeding once in recovery

And one powerful option, often overlooked, is lowering the drape at the moment of birth. This allows parents to actually watch their baby being born — turning what could feel like a disconnected process into a profoundly moving, participatory experience. It keeps parents informed, involved, and centered in the moment their baby comes Earthside.

Gentle cesareans honor the fact that every birth is special, and every family deserves a birth experience rooted in connection, intention, and respect.

Dads in the OR: More Than Just Support

Cesarean births are major abdominal surgeries, and while mom is the focus of this incredible and courageous process, dads have a unique and powerful role in ensuring both mom and baby feel supported and connected.

Sometimes, due to anesthesia, medications, arms being strapped down,or discomfort, moms may not be able—or want—to hold their baby immediately after a C-section. This is where dads can step in and make an unforgettable impact:

✨ Advocate for Skin-to-Skin: Ask for a gown that opens up so you can hold your baby skin-to-skin if mom needs time to recover. Your warmth, heartbeat, and familiar smell provide baby with instant comfort and connection.
✨ Provide Comfort and Safety: Follow baby to the warmer and stay close while the pediatric team completes their checks. Talk to baby so they can hear your familiar voice—it’s incredibly grounding for them in those first moments.
✨ Be Fully Present: This is your moment to bond with your baby, whether holding them close or simply being their comforting presence until mom is ready.

How a Doula Supports You in the OR:
When I’m allowed into the OR as your doula, I can help guide you through these moments—letting you know the perfect time to step away from mom to bond with your baby. I’ll advocate for you to pick baby up, talk to them, and get comfortable doing skin-to-skin while mom focuses on her recovery. Meanwhile, I stay with mom to keep her grounded, updated on baby’s status, and reassured that both of you are cared for.

Hip squeezes are an amazing tool during labor! They provide counterpressure to help relieve the intensity of contractions, especially during back labor or when baby needs help finding the best position.

Partners can learn this technique too! I love coaching partners so they can provide meaningful, hands-on support and feel confident being part of the birthing process. Hip squeezes are often a favorite for both the birthing person and their partner—it’s teamwork in action!

Wow, what a year.

2024 has been an incredible journey in my work as a birth doula. This year, I dedicated myself to furthering my knowledge by completing a birth and postpartum course, mentorship program, and breastfeeding course — all while navigating postpartum life with a toddler and infant. It was challenging, but every step has been so worth it.

I took on some of my birth families in my early postpartum days walking beside them in their pregnancies while i completed my courses and watched my own babies grow.
From August to December alone, I had the honor of supporting 10 amazing families through their unique birthing journeys. Each experience has deepened my passion for this work, and I’m so grateful to the families who have trusted me to stand by their side. I’ve also had the opportunity to meet many new families and look forward to supporting them in the year ahead.

Another highlight of the year was launching a community gathering circle in Delta, bringing people together to foster a sense of connection and belonging in our community.

And through it all, I’ve embraced this journey as a single mom to my two beautiful children. They are my driving force and the reason I pour my heart into this work and why i’m so beyond PROUD of myself

There’s something powerful about watching a partner as they witness the birth of their child. Often, they come in feeling uncertain, unsure of how to help. But when the time comes, they show up with a quiet strength, deep love, and a fierce devotion that is awe-inspiring.

In those sacred moments, you see every emotion: pride, fear, joy, and love—all woven together.
